Qualifications for Membership

  • You must be a Confirmed Catholic age 18 and older
  • You must be a practicing Catholic following all teachings of the Church
  • You cannot belong to another Order
  • You must be open to make a lifelong commitment to live the Franciscan Rule

Obligations of Membership

  • Attend Mass on all Holy Days of Obligation and Daily Mass as often as possible
  • Pray an appropriate form of liturgical prayer daily
  • Attend Monthly Fraternity Meetings
  • Contribute, as able, to the common fund
  • Perform our Fraternity’s apostolate
  • Live the OFS Rule

Steps to Membership

Becoming a Secular Franciscan is a journey of three stages.

  • Stage One: Orientation
    Dialogue and developing relationships. Explore general information about the Order, St. Francis and St. Clare, and share in Franciscan prayer life.
  • Stage Two: Inquiry
    Study. You will learn the histories of the Franciscan Orders and more about Sts. Francis and Clare.
  • Stage Three: Candidacy
    You will learn the Rule of the Order and its Constitution & Statutes, while continuing to learn more about Sts. Francis and Clare in preparation for life long profession.

    Current norm for preparation is 36 months or less by exception.
